Warrior Ethos Series: Episode 1

I have anxiety. Where do I start? How do I heal?

Hi warrior. I want you to read these words and take a deep breath. Now take another one.

Would you believe me if I told you that you just took the first step to your healing? It seems impossible now, but you have everything within you to heal from your anxiety. Right here, right now in this moment. Your beautiful biology allows your body in take in life nourishing oxygen and exchange that oxygen into energy for your body, your mind and new warrior attitude.

I wish healing from anxiety was as easy as breathing, but unfortunately life always finds a way to test our grit and our determination to be better than we were before. Always remember, that no matter how hard the situation in life is your breath is your dedicated battlefield ally, always vigilant, always prepared to come to your aid.

Your journey starts with a breath. Feel the air expand your stomach and empower you. I want you to focus on this moment and realize that the way your breath makes you feel is the REAL you. Anxiety, fear and a sense of dread are all cheap jesters trying to distract you from your true self. Although fear and anxiety (the fear of future fear) can be terrific tools to protect you from danger, they are and can only ever be defense systems. You alone are the warrior responsible for your battlefield victory. The key to healing is confronting the fear and moments that restrict your breathing with acceptance and understanding. Your fear is providing you battlefield intelligence and sometimes intelligence is wrong. You have to train your mind to identify when your fear is giving you good information, or misinterpreted information it gathered from the world.

Your foundational block of your new warrior ethos is the breath. Breath can be a calming breeze or a turbulent storm. With proper understanding you will be empowered to control your own emotional weather and come to the realization that your anxiety can only be the meteorologist making predictions about how big the upcoming storm is going to be. Look outside for yourself. Take a deep breath and feel the sun on your face. A prediction of 50% chance of rain will perpetually be correct half of the time, but are you going to focus on what may come or what is now?

Breathe.
